Within the framework of the project “Civic participation in combating corruption at the local level”, a guest lecture was held by the former CEO of Transparency International Russia, Ilya Shumanov, on the topic “The role of civil society institutions in combating corruption.” Ilya Shumanov spoke in detail about five main areas, in which civil society can take part in the fight against corruption: monitoring and detection of corruption, research and analysis, education and information, legal assistance and legal protection, active participation and civil mobilization. In each area, the guest shared his experience and achievements in the fight against corruption. We express our deep gratitude to Ilya Shumanov for a meaningful and informative guest lecture. The implementation of this meeting was made possible thanks to the support of the American people provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) within USAID “Ukuk Bulagy”, implemented by the East West Management Institute (EWMI). The Central Asian Research Institute on Corruption and Money Laundering is responsible for the content of the trainings and lectures and does not necessarily represent the position of USAID, the US government, or EWMI.
