Mini-project “On combating corruption in the healthcare system of the Kyrgyz Republic”

08.06.2022

Within the framework of the project “Improving the capacity of civil society institutions on combating corruption in the Kyrgyz Republic and creating a Coalition of organizations to promote anti-corruption initiatives”, the Medical Trade Union of Kyrgyzstan under the leadership of Bermet Baryktabasova implemented a project to develop an information section “On combating corruption in the healthcare system of the Kyrgyz Republic” on the IPC website – https://mpk.kg/nocorrupt/
This initiative is motivated by the need to inform citizens about the problems of corruption in the healthcare system. It exists everywhere: when hiring, when getting an education, when being appointed to a position, when paying salaries; informal out-of-pocket payments, corruption in tendering and drug registration, and so on. Corruption in the healthcare system leads to the prosperity of the illegal business in medicine, the rise in the cost of medical care, unreasonable budget expenditures, reduced access to medical services, and ultimately to the deterioration of public health and the impoverishment of citizens.
The section on corruption on the website of the Medical Trade Union of the Kyrgyz Republic was created for the purpose of education. It aims to inform the public about the problems of corruption in medicine, as well as to develop a culture of zero tolerance for corruption in the healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan.
This initiative was implemented with the support of the Central Asian Institute for Research on Corruption and Money Laundering and with the financial support of the Democratic Commission of the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.
