Round table on the topic “Anti-corruption education and measures to improve its effectiveness”, dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day

The Central Asian Research Institute on Corruption and Money Laundering together with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic held a round table on the topic “Anti-corruption education and measures to increase its effectiveness”, dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day.

The round table was attended by the deputy of the Jonorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the rector and vice-rector of universities, representatives of international organizations and students.

At the event, Minister of Education and Science Isakov K.A. made a presentation on the anti-corruption tasks set for universities and emphasized the role and responsibility of university rectors in preventing corruption. The Minister also noted the need to automate the processes of providing services and exclude the human factor to prevent corruption risks.

Director of the Central Asia Research Institute on Corruption and Money Laundering Erkayim Mambetalieva spoke about international anti-corruption educational initiatives and the need for anti-corruption education of students.

Deputy of the JK KR Ainuru Altybaeva stressed the importance of discussing the problem of corruption in Kyrgyzstan. “It is equally important to prevent corruption, and not to fight its consequences,” said Ainuru Toychievna and outlined the need for an integrated approach.

Almazbek Akmataliev, rector of APPA KR noted the problems of anti-corruption education in universities and mechanisms for its improvement.

The rector of OshSPI Bekmyrza Zuluyev, in his speech on the mechanisms for preventing corruption at pedagogical faculties, dwelt on the need to introduce an anti-corruption course.

Elmira Arapova, head of the Public Foundation “Man, Law, Freedom,” dwelled on the tolerance of society towards corruption and the need to work with the problem, first of all, by the heads of universities.

Dinara Asanbaeva, AUCA teacher made a presentation on the topic “The role of academic honesty in improving the quality of education (on the example of AUCA).”

Graduates of the First Youth Anti-Corruption Camp and participants in youth anti-corruption projects were also invited to the round table. Almaz Murzabaev told the round table participants about the impressions and results of the camp, about the implementation of the student educational training held in the KSLA and a number of other important anti-corruption student initiatives implemented as a result of the anti-corruption camp.

The attending students spoke about their initiative to create an Interuniversity Student Council for Academic Integrity, as well as the development of a student charter against corruption. As a result of the round table, a resolution was adopted with specific recommendations addressed to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as universities of the Kyrgyz Republic to reduce corruption risks in the education system and introduce anti-corruption education and enlightenment of students.
