Khachik Kharutyunyan: “Offshore and Corruption”

13.01.2022

Events with the disclosure of the largest offshore database in history, the Pandora Papers, have attracted the attention of the world community. Certainly, corruption and laundering of illicit proceeds are associated with offshore zones. But how does it happen?

The answer to this question was addressed by Khachik Harutyunyan, a representative of Transparency International-Armenia, during the “International Standards and National Legal and Institutional Framework for Combating Corruption” module. He is an international expert in the fields of anti-corruption, good governance, and political finance. Our guest gave a lecture on “Offshore and Corruption” where he shared his valuable knowledge about offshore zones, their main functions and why they attract corrupt officials to keep their savings there.

We would like to express our gratitude to Khachik Kharutyunyan for his interesting lecture. Special thanks to lecturer Dinara Asanbayeva for the opportunity to meet with international experts in the module “International Standards and National Legal and Institutional Framework for Combating Corruption”.

The Academic Anti-Corruption Certified Program is implemented in cooperation with the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic with the financial support of the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan.
