The Master’s students of the program “ Effective Governance and Anti-Corruption ” had a unique opportunity to meet James Wright – an international consultant with more than 25 years of experience in 27 countries, including the USA and Central Asia. James is an expert on banking regulation, anti-money laundering and economic development.At the lecture James Wright spoke about the global challenges of money laundering. He paid special attention to the mechanisms of laundering through real estate and mining, sharing real cases and exposing complex schemes used around the world.The expert emphasized how important it was to build knowledge and experience in the field of countering corruption and financial crime. He also inspired the audience by advising them to consider a career in compliance – a promising and highly paid field, especially in large international companies.In addition to the lecture, James Wright had a meeting with the Rector of AGUPKR, Almaz Akmataliev, where they discussed the importance of training highly qualified professionals in the field of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering. “The world needs professionals who are ready to take responsibility for transparency and justice,” noted the Rector of the Academy.Meetings with international experts provide an opportunity to learn more about international best practices in combating corruption.The Master’s program is implemented within the framework of the UNDP project “Strengthening People-Centered Anti-Corruption and Accountability Efforts in the Kyrgyz Republic”, implemented by the Central Asian Research Institute on Corruption and Money Laundering in cooperation with the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.The views expressed in this publication do not necessarily reflect those of the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme, its programmes/projects or governments.
